Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Octathorn Technologies ("we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with the FIKOKID mobile application (the "App"). FIKOKID is an educational short-video app designed for children.

Audience

FIKOKID is directed to children, including children under the age of 13. We have designed the App to be safe and appropriate for young users.

Information We Collect

The App has no user accounts, registration, or login. We never ask a child for their name, email address, phone number, precise location, contacts, or photos, and we do not collect them.

The App does, however, transmit a limited amount of technical and app-usage information. The table below lists everything that leaves the device and who receives it.

Some privacy laws, including COPPA, treat identifiers of this kind as personal information when they are collected from a child. We describe them here so parents can make an informed decision.

Advertising

We do not display advertisements inside the App, and we do not sell personal information. We do advertise FIKOKID on other platforms, and the Meta measurement described above tells us whether those advertisements led to installs.

We have switched off advertising-identifier collection in the App. The Android Advertising ID (AAID) and Apple's Advertising Identifier (IDFA) are not collected or transmitted, and the App does not request the AD_ID permission. We do not build behavioural profiles of children and do not use the App's data for interest-based advertising or remarketing.

Information Stored Only on the Device

Most of what the App remembers is saved locally on the device and is never sent to us or anyone else:

• Learning progress, quiz results, watch history, rewards and streaks, liked and saved videos, and app preferences.
• The parental PIN and its recovery answers.
• The child's selected age range, content categories, language and religion preferences.

This information stays on the device and is permanently removed when the App is uninstalled.

Microphone

FIKOKID includes an optional interactive feature ("Talking Fiko") that lets a child speak and hear the Fiko character play their voice back. To do this, the App requests microphone access.

• Audio is processed entirely on the device.
• Audio is written to a temporary file, replayed locally, and then discarded.
• Audio is never uploaded, transmitted, stored permanently, or shared.

How We Use Information

On-device information is used to personalise content, track learning progress, and enforce parental controls. The information that leaves the device is used only to deliver video content, count likes, and measure advertising performance as described above. We do not use it to identify an individual child.

Data Sharing

We share information only with the recipients named in the table above, and only for the purposes stated there. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share information with any other third party except where required by law.

Meta and Google process the information they receive under their own privacy policies.

Parental Rights

Parents and guardians may contact us to ask what information has been collected about their child, to request its deletion, or to ask that we stop collecting it. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days.

Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored information and stops any further collection.

Data Security

We implement appropriate measures to protect information against unauthorised access or alteration. Video content is delivered over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Some requests to our own service are not yet encrypted; we are working to move them to HTTPS.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, within the App. Where the law requires it, we will seek parental consent before applying a material change to how we handle children's information.
